What am I reading?

I decided to write a quick post about the books that I am currently reading. You may wonder how can I read so many books? I mostly listen to audio-books which helps me get through books quicker. Audio-books saved my life when I was in High School. Once I found out that there were books on tape, I have been hooked ever since. I do not read fast and I like to write in my books then reflect on what I read so reading a book takes a significant amount of time for me unless it is fiction then I can breeze right through the book. But if it is non-fiction which is what I mostly read then it takes a lot of time to get through the material. I love to apply what I am reading to my life which adds to the time as well.

Currently, I put in my earbuds to listen to my audiobooks then I do my chores around the house or do my walking in the backyard while the kids play or while I am cooking. I appreciate learning new ideas and hearing other people’s stories or other people’s research. So here is my list of current books that I am reading:

  1. Becoming by Michelle Obama- This book I started last year. I have six more chapters to finish. Our AAMLA series will be discussing this book next month so I am looking forward to that discussion.
  2. The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church’s Complicity in Racism by Jemar Tisby. I started this book last year and I have six chapters left. This book is so good and I am learning so much about the Church.
  3. Infectious Madness: The Surprising Science of How We “Catch” Mental Illness by Harriet A. Washington. I just started this book a couple of weeks ago.
  4. Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America by Charisse Jones & Kumea Shorter-Gooden, PhD. I am reading this book with the virtual book club that I am apart of. Currently, I am on Chapter 3.

I have other books that I have purchased and borrowed from the library but I have not started them yet. I want to get through these books then decide if they will be worthy of my Must Read Monday blog post. Who am I kidding? These books will make the cut. Let me know what you are reading in the comments section. Look out for my next Must Read Monday post!

  1. I am in awe of your reading prowess! Thank you so much for sharing this book list. I read Becoming and was very moved by it. I can’t wait to read at least one of the other ones on your list.

  2. Thank you so much! I think it truly comes from me being a history major we had to read 2 to 4 books a class and I had 2 history classes a semester so I had to learn how to do that successfully. Also, I love reading and learning new concepts. I can’t wait to finish Becoming. Happy reading!
