This month’s must-read book is The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw. I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook version of this book, which I highly recommend. This book is a “collection of short stories about Black women, sex, and the Black church.” Since I love this book so much, I did a video for our virtual speed dating with a book event when I was at SUNY Brockport. So, this week, you will get a combination of a blog and vlog post. Deesha is my favorite fiction writer because her writing is layered, textured, beautiful, vulnerable, and authentic. As you will see in my video, this book excited me.
Careful, you go looking for something, you just might find it.
