Happy New Year! It has been a while since I have written here. I look forward to being more consistent. I am proud of myself for writing on my blog last year when, in 2022, I did not write one blog post. For the new year, I like to reflect on the previous year and give my intentions for the coming year. I won’t be doing that this year. The one intention for my blog is to write something here each month. I want to write even if it is not my four weekly posts. I want to come here to inform you about something I am doing in my career.
Last year, I traveled so much, which took a lot of time and energy. I was happy that I could go on two trips with my spouse. That was truly amazing! We haven’t traveled away since our honeymoon, so it was great to travel together. I love to travel; however, the anxiety that I feel since COVID-19 came on the scene is like no other. I hate that we have this virus, and it makes me want to be more introverted. Since things are mostly back to “normal,” in-person conferencing with a hybrid twist has commenced. My biggest takeaway is that I love New Orleans, and they have the best food in the US. There was not one restaurant that I went to that was not good.

Last year, I didn’t write here as much as I would like to because I was involved in so many writing projects, research projects, and presentations. As a result, my brain power was zapped. Also, I am honing my research skills, so I am learning new things that are taking up more time. I will share more details on that, hopefully later this year. Lastly, I wanted to get more involved in my local community, which also took up my time. My interest in being part of the 540WMain board was accepted. This incredible organization serves as a virtual hub that promotes justice for all. In addition, I continued my work with the Third Ace Project, which Common Ground Health is leading. Below is the image of the iceberg model that was created for the project. Then, I was accepted to be part of the Parent Leadership Training Institute. I look forward to working on my community project to center the city branches in my county system. Our area public libraries have so many great resources that I want as many people to know about. Soon, I will be trained to be an Emotional Emancipation Circles Facilitator. Thanks to my growing community of friends in my area for bringing these opportunities my way. I am proud to have stepped out of my comfort zone to seek community.
Cheers to this coming year! I love documenting my journey as a Black health sciences librarian. Prayers that I will have the time to write more this year. I look forward to sharing what I am learning with you as I continue to grow. What are you looking forward to in the new year? How are you making community?
Until next time, take care,
Jamia
